- From Eric Gouda (12-12-2002): This Aechmea seems to be close to Aechmea poitaei and is
collected by P.Maas: Peru, Puerto Almedras; 1994. Note the polystichously arranged flowers
(sepals 1 cm long).
- From José M. Manzanares (27-01-2003): Did you find out in this Aechmea (Streptocalyx group), is the A. murcae? or
similar?
- From Eric Gouda (27-01-2003): I kept it with the original name: Streptocalyx poitaei but
it is not this species. The strange thing about it is that the spikes are not distichously
flowered as in S.poitaei. Floral bracts are apiculate and sepals 1 cm long, primary bracts
distinctly serrulate, so I don't think it is A.murcae.
- From Walter Till (Date: 28-1-03) # 33 looks like Aechmea (Streptocalyx) poitaei
- From Eric Gouda (28-01-2003): It has entered the garden with the name Streptocalyx
poitaei, but it has polystichous flowered spikes and the primary bracts are not cucculate.
The leaf-sheats are less than 10 cm long, the blade glabrous, finely serrulate, apex
attanuate (no cusp); infl. less than 10x8 cm.
An important character is that the sepals are not over 1 cm long (16-22 mm in S.potaei),
with a 2 mm long spine, not exceeding the lateral wing, ecarinate.
