  • Identification: Walter Till (2012-04-10) =Tillandsia cf. brachycaulos/capitata - This is a difficult alliance not yet fully understood. Maybe your plant is not yet described
  • Identification: Uncle Derek (2012-04-11) ='Maria Teresa L' - I suggest you check Bromeliad Cultivar Register for a possible solution (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
  • Identification: Matthias Asmuss (2012-04-25) =Tillandsia brachycaulos x fasciculata - until now, best match with best picture in fcbs.org, record no. 1729 where seed parent is mentionned as brachycaulos x fasciculata and no polen parent; another record in fcbs and bsi says \'Maria Teresa L\' with old picture: also: Maria Teresa bought \'Maria Teresa L\' (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
  • Identification: Eric Gouda (2012-04-25) =Tillandsia capitata x fasciculata - I have made a photo in 1988 of a similar hybrid of T.capitata x T.fasciculata. It was in between T.capitata imported probably from Mexico if I remember well. Although the true identity of T.capitata is a puzzle I would say Tillandsia capitata x fasciculata (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
  • Addit.Note: Uncle Derek (2012-04-26) - First, I think we are dealing with a hybrid here and we are not getting very far with this. If Maria Teresa Vega does have a 'Maria Teresa L' then it would be great to see a more up-to-date photo of it so we could look at the similarity. Remember that Maria Teresa L comes from Dominica and its parents are said to be T. brachycaulos and fasciculata. BUT both these species ( and capitata) come in all colours and sizes so which clones were used? Secondly Matthias has been looking at natural hybrids for a clue and has to be extra careful here because Botanists refer to parentage as putative. At the moment I would identify it as Tillandsia hybrid (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
  • Addit.Note: Matthias Asmuss (2012-04-27) - just separated the clump due to animal planet and for better photos: since some plants have mature size more data should be avaiable soon: declaring it as capitata x fasciculata would mean a new record in BCR as it is not 'Bronze Crown''; the hybrid was easily for more than ten years in M. Teresa's collection in cultivation, but I cannot ask her anymore if she bought it as Maria Teresa L; I would put the picture where Maria Teresa L or brachycaulos x fasciculata subject to change; for me it will have to remain a number TI 38 until further notice ...
