Pitcairnia lehmannii
(Uploaded as: Pitcairnia sp. (lehmannii?))
Locality: Large Pitcairnia species from collector in Queensland. Origin unknown but probably grown from imported seed. About 1.5m or so tall. Somewhat rhizomatous - 30cm, with dense, recurved spines on the edges of the elongating sheaths which are very dark at the base (30cm+) (merge into narrowed, channelled leaves. until blade starts then entire). Could it be Pit. lehmannii?
Photographer: Peter Tristram
Identification: solved

  • Identification (5345): Eric Gouda (2009-11-30) =Pitcairnia lehmannii - Yes Peter, this looks very much like P.lehmannii. Check if the flowers are going to hang down at or shortly after anthesis. (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
