- Eric Gouda: a large Pitcairnia (ca. 1.5 m tall) as P.maidifolia, but several
characteristics are different. The bracts are greenish, not redish as in most P.maidifolia
types.
- Aletta van de Berg ( Date: 29-9-00): F. Oliva-Esteva and J.A. Steyermark
mention in their book 'Bromeliaceaes of Venezuela' (1987, page 370) that there occur two
forms of P. maidifolia in Venezuela: a red form in the state Merida and a yellow form in
the states Trujillo and Portugesa. The collections of P. maidifolia from the Guianas I
studied, all had red bracts (information from the labels of herbarium specimens).
